Apex PD and Shield NC have collaborated to bring in speakers to address issues faced by vulnerable populations. Local government representatives, service providers, law enforcement, and faith leaders gather to learn and network. Lunch is served. *Currently, meetings are virtual.
Danica, from Apex PD, discussed her role in helping support domestic violence or human traficking victims in finding services and naviagting the legal system. She also explained how dometic violence is a "push factor" or domestic violence.
Dr. Bixler holds a Phd in clinical psychology and treats sex addiction. He explain why some people become complusive pornography consumers and how that can lead to demand for sex trafficking.
Beth is the executive director of Western Wake Crisis Ministry, which provides food, coaching, and financial support to the western wake county region.
Angela is a lead volunteer for Designed For Joy, which provides vocational training and living wage for vulnerable women in the Raleigh area.
Elizabeth Hunter is the Coordinator for Project Fight which is the lead for our local Rapid Response Team. Project Fight provides services for trafficking victims across the state.
Tommy Bernard is the chair of the Public Health Committee for the NC Human Trafficking Commission.
Mayor Olive discussed his recent trip to visit Houston's municipal response to combat trafficking to bring back best practices to Apex.
